Blacksmithing

Crafting will never be the same!  I added an anvil to the game :D

Lots Of New Stuff!

I've been doing lots of art, but I suck, so I keep taking after-work naps instead of updating my blog...  Sorry about that :(

The good news is, there's tons of new stuff that I've made Jus Sanguinis, and I'm even working on some buildings and NPCs for the first town :D  Here's some of what I've made in the last couple weeks:

 Barrels to search, beds to sleep in, a whetstone to sharpen your equipment with...

 Bottles and potions to go in them, alchemy stations to make those potions, and a WAY nicer dagger (you saw that one in the last demo, but I'm making a iron sword that I want to finish tomorrow ;D).

Again, sorry about the lack of regular updates, but I get really tired after long work days :P

Demo #3 XD

I uploaded the next demo to MEGA, so you can give it a try.

As usual, I've already made a bunch of progress beyond what's in there, including new objects, items, areas, and so on.  I'm also adding in crafting, new weapons, and new enemies, along with tidying up old stuff.

Let me know what you think! :)

Chests

I made a cool chest, for storing all the stuff that Shara collects.  I'm working on some other containers, but I think this is a good start.  They'll go nicely with all the other furniture I'm working on :)

Also, I'll be putting up the next demo shortly, so stay tuned :D

Demo #2 :D

Here's a link to the second demo.  I'm just about done the third demo, and things are looking pretty awesome overall.

The second demo is way less rough and awful :P

Oh, and it's in two different forms, because I asked for a version that would run on Apple computers.  The exe is just windows, but the jar is for Apple and Linux and so on.

Here's the links:

EXE (mediafire): http://www.mediafire.com/download/qvw3bflp0gl45q9/Jus_Sanguinis_Demo_2.exe

JAR (mediafire): http://www.mediafire.com/download/f1mjwt0vnd687d5/Jus_Sanguinis_Demo_2.jar

EXE (mega): https://mega.nz/#!2ktVUb5R!t1L3ATSz_rju21DFqId4dgiTbqOje-mrFq9oM4iDw2A

JAR (mega): https://mega.nz/#!r4MkSQbA!gHtyq3or89aZAxvn8RnaaRsklAvNoPq4Rp0EehNpsGU

I decided to use mediafire because that's what other people seem to be using, and apparently Patreon doesn't like adult content to be public.  I hope it works :P

Moving Around

The feel of the game was kind of restrictive, so I got the way that Shara moved changed to being a lot more free, kind of like in the handheld Zelda games.  Instead of moving a set amount, she now just moves for as long as you make her move.  It's still a work in progress, but it's definitely better.

I tried it out today, and it's really awesome :D

Cleaning Up the Animations

So you'll be happy to know that there are only one or two animations now that aren't finished, so you won't have to look at 'rough Shara' for much longer.  I'm going to be working on the storyline a lot more for demo #3, as well as putting in some things like doors and areas and buildings.

This is what staggering looks like now:

Demo #2 will be publicly available in a few more days :D

A Day Off

I have the day off today, so I'm going to be doing lots of Jus Sanguinis work XD

There's another demo coming up for everyone, which has a bunch of new stuff and a lot of things fixed from the first one.   Right now I'm designing some leather armour and a storage chest, and I'm hoping to get started on NPCs and the first town some time later today :D

For demo #3, I want to add in another enemy or maybe two, depending on how many shifts I pick up in the next week or so.  I'll keep you posted!

Defeat

I'm working on some art for the cinematic events that trigger when and if Shara is defeated in the game.

I'm planning to have some result in bad ends, others that are relatively harmless, and some that trigger special events and so on :D

Diona (Shara's Mother)

Since she's such an important part of the story, I decided to start working on Diona.  She's the mother of your character, and she drives the plot quite a bit.

Oh, and she happens to have big breasts too :P

Demo #1

The game is still super ultra rough, and there's a ton of stuff that's not done at all or only sketched out, but I figure that it can't hurt to put it out there and see how many people like it.

I can't make any guarantees about how fast I'll get any particular part done, because even though I love to draw and I spend almost all my free time making art, I still have a shitty job that takes up most of my time.

But I can promise that I'll keep working on it for as long as it takes :D

Controls:
W/Up -> Walk North
S/Down -> Walk South
A/Left -> Walk West
D/Right -> Walk East
Space -> Attack / Struggle / Get Up
Q -> Block
E -> Pick up item
I -> Inventory

The Story

I wrote some stuff for the game's intro 'cinematic' (I'm doing cinematics as series' of pictures at least for now), so I figured that I might as well share what I came up with :D

In the year 820, the Orcish army invaded the Human Kingdom of Ardam.  The battles fought over the course of that great war were bloody and merciless, and left both kingdoms shattered.  Many lives were lost, and many families on each side were left without a single adult man.

The devastation was felt most strongly near the border, where most towns were destroyed completely and others were left in shambles.

Even in the interior of the kingdom, in places like the town of Kinton, the loss of so many men had a terrible impact.  Among the population, nearly half the children grew up without their fathers and nearly all had lost brothers and uncles.  As well, there were many orphans who made their way from the remnants of the border territories in search of new homes.

Near the end of the war, a woman named Diona moved into a small house at the edge of Kinton.  She had a young daughter named Shara, whose father had fought and died in the war.  Less than a year later, the two were joined by a young orphan boy who Diona had found wandering in the forest and adopted.  She took him in and named him Ardo, after Shara's father, vowing to raise him as a son.

The peace between the kingdoms remained shaky for many years after, and life was difficult even for the most fortunate.  For Diona, she took comfort in the knowledge that she could keep herself and her children safe.

Diona worked at the tavern when she could, but some years were harsh and there was little work.  Thanks to a generous old friend that lived in the nearby town of Dionosa, however, the family was usually able to make it through the hard times better than most.  Even when food was scarce, Shara's family always found a way to make it through.

Ardo would do work for townsfolk of passing travelers, in exchange for food...

Shara would often collect edible plants, herbs, and berries from the forest nearby...

And in the coldest and longest winters, when supplies ran low and half the town was on the verge of starvation, Diona would visit the nearby trading post.  The hunters there spent long stretches in the wilds, and were quite willing to part with some of their catch to help a beautiful mother, who desperately wanted to see her children well fed so that they could grow up smart and strong.  And of course, they had heard of how thankful Diona was for such generosity...

Diona felt no shame in doing whatever was necessary, to provide for her children and make sure that they saw a time when the world moved back from the darkness.

However, even as the last flames of the war were smoking out, another shadow began to show itself.

It was in the late spring that it all began, while Shara was in the forest gathering some herbs...

The Thief

I'm working on a few different enemies right now, one of which is the Thief.  He's going to be pretty weak (as far as humanoid enemies go), but there will be stronger humans as well.

This is what he's going to look like in game:

Shara

Raised in a small village in the interior of the country, never knowing her father who died in the great war, she must do whatever it takes to protect her mother and adopted brother from the perils of the world.

Things have been difficult since the war, with scarce food and other resources, and with constant danger from the monsters and outlaws who have been allowed to spread across the country.

Shara has a great fate within her, but the outcome of time is never certain.  Will she become renowned throughout the world, or will she fade into oblivion as just another victim of the war?

Shara's Starting Equipment

Here's a preview of the 'armour' that I'm working on for Shara.

It's just a linen bra, linen panties, a linen shirt, linen pants, and leather shoes.

Don't worry, though, I'm working on some leather armour too :P

A Game Icon

I made a cool new icon for the game :D

The First JS Animation

This past week, I finished the first animation in the game, which is Shara walking.

I'm planning to re-touch all of the animations and expand on them all once I've got a playable game, but this is what the rough cut is going to look like :D

The Main Character

Shara is an eighteen-year-old girl from a small village, who has never ventured far from the safety of her community.  She lives with her mother and brother, and has never met her father.  She knows very little about her family's past, and nothing of her father, despite a lifetime of wondering.

As for love, her overprotective mother ensures that the men of the village stay well away from the young woman.
